Proven teaching method

Lessons are taught in a low-stress format, meeting once a week for a half-hour or full-hour lesson, and follow a program developed by the Guitar Cities instructors based on their experiences as tutors and their careers as touring and recording professionals. Lessons are catered to the individual needs and goals of every individual student. Students also have the opportunity to apply their instruction by writing and recording their own songs on professional studio equipment, if that is a student's goal!

Professional Instructors

Joe Shimmin studied at the London Centre of Contemporary Music, where he gained a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance and Production. He has played in a variety of projects, such as Musical Theatre, televised charity events and studio sessions. He currently performs jazz and world music and leads his own Jazz Quartet, playing at bespoke events across London. His friendly, relaxed, yet methodical teaching style has benefited countless musicians from all ages, styles and abilities.
Lee Blackmore is a versatile guitarist who has a wealth of experience, regularly performing gigs in London and throughout the Uk. He has studied and taught a wide variety of musical styles, including many types of popular music, and also gained a Bmus (Hons) in Jazz studies from Birmingham Conservatoire. He has performed at, the Vienne Jazz festival (France), Paradise Jazz festival (Cyprus), Birmingham Symphony Hall, and The Jazz Cafe (London). He also has his own Jazz trio and he is regularly active and involved in playing with a variety of musicians in many different creative projects around London. His experience with a diverse range of musical styles has influenced his teaching approach, so that in a relaxed but focussed way he can help students achieve their goals and help them get the most out of music and the guitar.
A graduate of Hope College (Holland, MI, USA) in Psychology, Music, and business, James Lenger has been teaching guitar and bass professionally for 22 years and has given over 70,000 lessons during that time. After touring with his band for a number of years, he founded Guitar Cities in Chicago, USA in 2006. Since then, he has expanded the schools to New York, San Francisco, and London. James teaches the Guitar Cities London Brush-Up program 2 days per year in the Aldgate Location. He also heads up the Rockshop program with Guitar Cities London instructors. This experience promotes musical instruction in a group setting, allowing students to perform and practice in professional sound stages.
